The multi channel system records online the temperature at important points at the piston. The data are the base for the analysis of the tempe- rature distribution at different load scenarios and for the optimisation of the geometry of the piston. The system uses robust and simple-tomount thermocouples that are able to resist the increasing grade of vibrations. The sensor signal amplifier is mounted at the piston (180 °C) and scans the temperature measuring points once a piston stroke and transmits the data to the stationary evaluation unit. The contact-less transmission needs no batte- ries. The signal transmission at BDC makes a simple mounting possible. Due to the inductive and maintenance-free transmission technique the runtime of the system is nearly unlimited. The design of the 8 channel measuring amplifier is very small (21 × 12 × 5mm), weighs about 3 grams and can be used in a temperature range up to 180 °C.
